The Norwegian class 2006-2007

Ten students, five of them from India, make the Norwegian class at Haugetun this year. In addition to these ten we have a boy from the Netherlands in the football class and a girl from Kenya in the social engagement class. Seven of the Norwegian class students have come directly from their home countries: Canada, Bolivia and India. The rest have stayed for some time in Norway with following addresses and background: Vadsø/Afghanistan, Bodø/Somalia and Froland/Myanmar ( Burma).

So far Norwegian language has been the central activity and so it will be. In addition to that the students will learn about the Norwegian society and culture. Every day they taste the food of our country and there will be some cooking during the year. Already the class has baked and served fresh apple cake to the rest of the more than 70 students. Erika from Canada was the leader of the baking.

She was the only girl from the class that crossed the mountain Besseggen when the whole school went to the mountains. Hamid was quickest of all that day. He and two other boys from the class crossed the mountain Knutshø the day before with a group of students. The rest of the class chose the shorter trip.

Since three of the students have been staying in Norway for some time they can help their fellow students with the language. When they do that they get a good practice themselves by doing it so correctly as possible. A win-win situation for both parts.
