This school year the Norwegian class has eight students. Some of them have come to Haugetun directly from their native countries while others already are living in Norway and have joined our school to learn or improve their Norwegian. As you understand the Norwegian group will consist of people with different backgrounds but everybody wants to know more about Norwegian language, society and culture.

I addition to Norwegian lessons with talking, writing, verbs and nouns and so on the students have made a lot of other experiences. Some of them are related to their own class while the rest are activities for larger groups of students. There has also been time for singing and games. It is not wrong to say that this until now has been a year with very hard work and because the class has a great portion of humour there has been a lot of smile and laughter. The students also have a lot of owns ideas and initiative.
Fun and prosperity
Andrew from Alaska is a very good photographer and a good cook. The prosperity-evening of the Norwegian class included Andrews well tasting pizza and a very well prepared program with songs, drama and games. The Norwegian-students really showed that they could cooperate both in the kitchen and by creating fun and laughter. The group has also served the whole school a complete Chinese dinner.

All students have stayed for some days at Sauevika by the sea and at Gjendesheim in the mountains tasting different environments. The Norwegian class also has visited Copenhagen in Denmark. So far we have had one trip with map and compass in the forest but there will be several excursions the coming months.

Culture project and work week
Each foreign country has been presented in a culture project. One foreign student and some students from Norway make a group whose task is to present his or her country in the best possible way. Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, China, Vietnam, Sudan, Alaska, Liberia and Kamerun were in focus on posters and by singing, dancing, TV-program, slides-show and games.

Tuong Vi presents facts about her country together with Gunnar.
In the middle of November every student is working one week outside Haugetun. Applying to the Norwegian Amelia from Liberia and Ya Liu from China are in a kindergarten, Pauline from Kamerun and Mohim from Bangladesh present their countries in a secondary school, Yuliya from Kazakhstan works in a hotel, Chuol from Sudan is a baker, Andrew from Alaska is a photographer and Tuong Vi from Vietnam works in a restaurant.
A school like Haugetun has no examinations or marks but the Norwegian class has worked really hard both with Norwegian language and with other activities. Of course the students have selectives together with students from other classes. Some subjects are bowling, cooking, making sweets, making jewellery, photo, golf, baking and high pulse. Afternoons and evenings are very important at Haugetun. Through different activities, games, arrangements and through quiet conversation student get contact and friendship.
